Leadership Development in Practice

Increasing strategic alignment in a global professional services firm

OBJECTIVE:

A new organisational strategy from a new CEO required his senior leaders globally to operate with more confidence and collaboration in a VUCA environment, but they came from technical backgrounds in which uncertainty was seen as something to avoid at all costs.

SOLUTION:

Designed and delivered a six-month programme using an action learning to deliberately show that answers could be found through global collaboration, deeper questioning and listening, and not only from being the “expert”. Each workshop focused on an area of the new strategy, with the participants researching and preparing what the strategic theme meant for them.

RESULT:

The organisation can see an increase in collaboration across geographies and business units. Leaders continue to meet together to share ideas and solve problems to navigate uncertainty and complexity.

Accelerated career progression for technical talent to reach senior levels in the UK Government

OBJECTIVE:

Having leaders with experience of and expertise in technology is critical for the UK Government. Data suggested that technical people were not making progress to senior levels as quickly or in the numbers needed to ensure that there was expert tech input at the highest levels.

SOLUTION:

Designed and delivered a nine-month modular leadership development programme for technologists, to equip and develop those who had the aptitude and the desire to reach senior levels in Government. The programme included:

  • developing tech leadership skills,
  • understanding more about technology trends,
  • visiting and learning from leading tech organisations and
  • 1-2-1 and team coaching

RESULT:

The organisation can see a tangible increase in confidence and leadership from participants and more technologists are progressing into senior roles.

Increase performance, productivity and employee engagement for a FTSE 100 Engineering firm

OBJECTIVE:

Focus on the top 100 leaders to role model and drive a change in behaviour and culture.

SOLUTION:

Designed and implemented a leadership development programme that used team coaching to develop leadership skills, increase engagement and identify practical solutions to business and behavioural challenges. Members of the top 100 met regularly in coaching teams, facilitated by a dedicated coach.

RESULT:

A clear and measurable improvement in leadership behaviours and employee engagement.
